Still has streets paved in lava stone, houses with facades
stuccoed in burnt ochre, a feature of the villages of Etna, surrounded
by vineyards and citrus groves.
Tle local wine, in fact, is considered to be among the finest of the so-called
"woodland" wines, rich in iron and lecithin. Two fine churches at hand,
display painting by the Catania artist Giuseppe Rapisardi. They are the
Cathedral and the church of the patron Saint Vitus.
Near Mascalucia there is also a ruined castle, the so-called "Griffon
Tower", and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mompileri.
Local handicraft includeds characteristic brightly-coloured rag mats.
